On episode #10 of Soda Tasting, I reviewed Sprite. On today’s episode, I take a look at Mexican Sprite, sweetened with sugar, and compare it to the high fructose corn syrup sweetened version, commonly available in the United States.

You are correct about the lime flavor being more apparant in the mexican sprite, as with the mexican coke, the flavors are more vibrant and the sweetness more refreshing than with hfcs. I also personally feel that the hfcs leaves a sticky feeling in my mouth after I drink it. I actually recently made the choice to only drink sodas flavored with cane sugar. Living in houston texas I have access to a wide variety of mexican sodas, as well as imperial dr. Peppers or “dublin dp’s”. Are there any other brands of sugar sweetened soda made here in america that are worth trying? (I am also aware of mtn dew and sierra mist being offered with sugar)worth trying? (
Thanks for the comment, Grant. I don’t know that I am correct – it’s just a matter of taste, really. For example, I prefer regular Coke to Mexican Coke and don’t really agree as far as the flavor. I find the regular Coke has a stronger flavor.
To answer your questions, I really like Cheerwine (with Sugar) and Mexican Fresca is pretty good, as well. Jarritos Lime is also good. You mentioned Dublin. Their line is quite good. The Dublin Vanilla Cream Soda is my favorite. Mountain Dew (with Sugar) is good, but sort of a different drink all together. I am not a fan of Sierra Mist Natural. Here are the links to my reviews of all of these:
