A&W Root Beer (with Sugar) Review (Soda Tasting #114)

On episode #103, I reviewed A&W Root Beer. On this episode, I am going to review the sugar sweetened edition available in glass bottles.

The drink was invented by Roy Allen in 1919. Following a growth in popularity, he took on a partner, Frank Wright and in 1922, introduced the A&W brand name, for Allen and Wright. This version has the same ingredients as the high fructose corn syrup version except for sugar and Quillaia extract, which is a foaming agent, according to WebMD.

  1. My top board game is Monopoly. I bought a bottle of AW with real sugar
Tonight. I found it so much better. Clean, crisp and no syrupy finish.
I too noticed a less hardy flavor but I liked that. As always great show.

    • Thanks for responding, Neil! I’m a Monopoly fan, too. :) Glad you liked A&W (with Sugar). :)
